Experts warn: ‘One of the most dangerous trends’, a crude flight’

Having a “raw” dog in this viral war can be deadly.

The social media influencer’s followers are “lively,” no-fun, in groups, making the oddball the summer’s buzziest travel trend. No music, no streaming, no sleep – just look at the map on the seat screen, or nothing, in silence.

But experts warn that it can be harmful to physical health and can even be deadly for the “idiots” who participate.

The trend is loosely credited to the Apple TV+ series Hijacked, where Idris Elba’s character Sam Nelson is forced to endure a more than seven-hour flight from Dubai to London with no amenities after his bus is commandeered by thieves.

The phenomenon began to become commonplace, with high-profile passengers bragging about taking to the raw skies.

“Just attempted a 7-hour flight (new personal best),” Wudini, a UK DJ boasted to his over 13.2 million TikTok viewers. “No headphones, no film, no water, nothing.”

Australian musician Torren Foot shared his 15-hour trip to Los Angeles in a viral video in which he said: “No music, no movies, just the flight map.”

Erling Haaland, a Manchester City soccer star, also posted about his boring flight: “I just tried a 7 hour flight. No phone, no sleep, no water, no food, just a map. #easy.”

Nutritionist Toby King explained to travel website Inspire Ambitions that following a flight raw can increase the risk of a blood clot, which “can break off and cause a blockage of the arteries in the lungs, which is very serious and can cause death”.

“This is one of the most dangerous trends I’ve seen on social media in a while, and while it seems innocent and a bit of fun on the surface, it can have deadly consequences and I would urge people to use common sense when travelling. ” said the King.

Dr. Gill Jenkins, a general practitioner who also works as a medical attendant on air ambulance transfers, echoed King’s sentiments.

“They are idiots,” Jenkins told the BBC. “A digital detox might do you good, but everything else is against medical advice.”

“The whole thing about the risk of long-haul flying is that you’re at risk of dehydration,” Jenkins added. “If you’re not moving, you’re at risk of deep vein thrombosis, which is associated with dehydration. Not going to the toilet is a bit silly. If you need a toilet, you need a toilet.”

Travel experts have also advised against the trend.

“We advise you to enjoy the flight,” declared an employee of flight booking app Netflights, the Daily Mail previously reported.

“With low oxygen pressure on flights and a change in humidity levels, an increased amount of water evaporates from our skin and lungs when we fly, so it becomes increasingly important to stay hydrated and drink fluids when fly,” warned travel professionals.
